first_imgJSIF Signs Road Rehabilitation Contracts UncategorizedNovember 18, 2006 FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmail Two contracts were signed by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF), on November 16, for the rehabilitation of the Kilmarnock road in North West St. Elizabeth/Eastern Westmoreland and Trenail to Maggotty road in North West St. Elizabeth.Signing ceremonies for the projects were held at Kilmarnock Primary School, and at the Trenail Outreach Church of God.In her address at the Trenail ceremony, Legal Officer of JSIF, Andrea Garcia, said the importance of rehabilitating the Trenail to Maggotty agricultural feeder road “cannot be over-emphasized”. “The residents are confronted with the problem, which hinders transportation and impacts negatively on other areas of their lives. What makes it even more difficult, is that farming is the main source of economic activity for the community,” she added.She pointed out that 1.6 kilometres of the road would be rehabilitated at a cost of $11.5 million, and that work should begin within two weeks.Mrs. Garcia explained that JSIF would be providing $9.6 million, while the community would provide the remaining $1.9 million.The contract has been awarded to St. Thomas Construction Company Limited. In relation to the Kilmarnock road, Mrs. Garcia said that approximately $15 million was approved for rehabilitation works, to be undertaken by Contraxx Enterprises Limited. She added that this project should be completed within four months. More than 1,300 residents from Kilmarnock and Trenail are expected to benefit from the rehabilitation projects. Among the guests at the signing ceremonies were Member of Parliament for Eastern Westmoreland, Luther Buchanan and Member of Parliament for North West St. Elizabeth, J.C. Hutchinson.
